About the Roster of Independent Experts

Paragraph 2 of Article 24 of the Convention provides that: "The Conference of the Parties shall establish and maintain a roster of independent experts with expertise and experience in the relevant fields. The roster shall be based on nominations received in writing from the Parties, taking into account the need for a multidisciplinary approach and broad geographical representation."

Decision 18/COP.1 outlines that the purpose of the roster is to provide the Conference of the Parties (COP) with an up-to-date list of independent experts in the various fields of specialization relating to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought, from which members of ad hoc panels may be selected.

If you would like to be added to the Roster, we advise you to contact your national focal point, and fill out the Expert Information Form. You can submit the form to your national focal point, along with your resume and cover letter outlining why you would be an asset to the Roster of Independent Experts and how you can contribute to the UNCCD community of experts.

In 2015, Decision 22/COP.12, inter alia, requested the secretariat to integrate the roster of independent experts database into the UNCCD Knowledge Hub to enable easier and more efficient use of the database. The Knowledge Hub, which was launched in 2016, allows for detailed searches through the Roster, and allows Experts to update their information by filling out a form.
