Back to search

This Factsheet explains the concept of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and provides data and case studies on land degradation in the Arab Region.

Policies promoting better land management practices and ecosystem restoration will contribute to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality. In this regard, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) provides support to countries in setting their national voluntary targets. Seventeen ESCWA Member Countries have ratified the UNCCD convention. However, many countries currently lack the necessary methods, data and expertise to set baselines and monitor and report on progress against land degradation.
