Home-based Consultant Position with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

The objective of this consultancy is to identify partnerships with private sector companies committed to ambitious mitigation goals through nature-based solutions and as contributions to the objectives of the forthcoming UN decade on ecosystem restoration and the Secretary General’s Climate Summit.

The consultant will undertake the following activities among others:

• Identify an initial set of 20 companies in need of adopting transitional mitigation strategies. The potential profile of a company like this could be one that (i) is under pressure to undertake mitigation actions, (ii) faces technological limitations to cut down emissions significantly, (iii) assumes that the future supply of affordable high-quality offsets will be limited and (iv) assumes the price of carbon will increase in the next 5-10 years.
• For each company, identify the most appropriate points of entry to initiate contact; 
• Assistance in initiating dialogues with target companies on financing large-scale forest restoration programs as part of ambitious corporate mitigation goals; 
• Assistance in formalizing partnerships with interested companies (e.g. letters of intention)

The position is home-based and does not require full-time presence at the duty-station.
