Livelihoods Specialist

Winrock is seeking a Livelihoods Specialist who will be responsible for implementing activities related to community economic issues, diversification and expansion of alternative livelihoods dependent on natural resources such as agroforestry, non-timber forest products, payment for ecosystem services, and sustainable timber/forestry. S/he will facilitate activities aimed at strengthening the quality of technical training programs. S/he will oversee, expansion of education and training, business planning and management, marketing and processing, expanding adoption of novel and combined approaches. S/he will need to ensure expansion of women and youth participation in programs to reach a balanced gender profile. The Livelihoods Specialist will work to. A Pacific Islander is preferred for this position. This position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identify, assess, and pursue opportunities to diversify and improve alternative livelihood opportunities for Malaitan communities, in the forestry and agroforestry sector.
• Identify and coordinate capacity building efforts to strengthen local actors’ ability to successfully engage in alternative livelihood opportunities.
• Seek and support livelihood opportunities targeting women, youth, and other vulnerable populations; ensure that women and youth are well represented in project activities.
• Facilitate linkages between communities and private enterprises – related to opportunities in forestry/agroforestry.
