Description
The Senior Advisor, Environment and Climate will work closely with senior Secretariat staff to undertake research and implement technical assistance and training programs for governments. Areas of support may include biodiversity management, water management, mine closure and waste management, environmental and social impact assessments, critical minerals and responsible supply chains, and climate action.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Undertaking research and writing in key areas of environmental management and mining governance, including biodiversity, water management, waste management, and mine closure.
- Undertaking research and writing in key areas of climate action, including critical minerals, energy transition, climate adaptation and mitigation, and responsible supply chains.
- Supporting guidance document implementation, including technical assistance and capacity-building programs for members.
- Supporting the design and delivery of IGF events, webinars, training, and sustainability forums.
- Working to connect with existing and potential IGF partners to develop mutually beneficial relationships.
- Participating in member outreach and networking activities as required.
- Supporting IGF communications around environment and climate issues.
Qualifications:
- Have successfully completed a master’s or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline.
- 10 to 15 years of experience in an area relevant to the mandate of the IGF.
- Knowledge of environmental management and climate action principles, practices, and international processes.
- Experience in the mining sector or in addressing environment and climate issues that are related to mining and sustainable development.
- Good communications skills and the ability to work interactively with colleagues and stakeholders from different contexts, countries, and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Strong written communication skills.
- International experience is considered an asset.
- Working with governments is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of environmental and social impact assessment, mine closure and/or critical minerals is considered an asset.
