The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is a part of the ETH domain.
In accordance with its mandate, the Directorate has defined the development of an environmental data portal as a strategic focus for WSL. The central goal of the initiative is to add value to WSL’s rich reservoir of environmental monitoring and research data.
You will be part of a small technical team in charge of the further development of the environmental data portal EnviDat. You will be responsible for the implementation of various technical aspects, in particular for the management, registration and storage of research data and associated metadata. You will develop new applications for (meta)data import and for connecting to existing databases and information systems, with a focus on automatic measurement stations. The maintenance and adaptation of existing EnviDat backend and databases as well as user support will also be part of your responsibilities. Moreover you are expected to assist the technical coordinator in the development of solutions for the integration of measurement networks.
You have a degree in computer science (or comparable experience) and you are skilled in software development and in the technical implementation of computer science projects. You possess excellent server-side programming and database skills. Additional experience with frontend development (JavaScript/CSS) and data visualisation is a plus. You are familiar in agile software development with short release cycles and enjoy working intensively with new technologies in the field of environmental data management.
