The Young Water Fellowship Program is our flagship program, and it aims to empower young leaders from low and middle income countries to implement projects to tackle water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), water pollution and water scarcity issues, by offering them an intensive training program, seed funding grants for their projects, and mentoring support by senior level experts during one year.
Each year, this program brings about 10 young community leaders capable of successfully designing and implementing sustainable and inclusive water initiatives that significantly improve living conditions in their communities, while contributing to the achievement of SDG #6 (water and sanitation for all).
Mentors are expected to do the following among others:
- Share knowledge and experience to support the Fellow through the piloting phase of their social business;
- Interact with the Fellow according to the relationship, communication channels and frequency agreed (at least once a month);
- Send YWS updates on the progress of the Mentorship goals 3 months and 6 months after the initial call;
- Inform YWS in case the mentorship experience is not going according to expectations.
Mentors will be selected based on the following criteria among others; should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the WASH sector, either technical or as entrepreneurs. Mentors should also be willing and able to interact at least once a month with their Fellow. Professional experience in topics identified as needs by the Fellows and experience in the Fellow’s country are key assets.
