Webinar-UK Climate resilience Series.

A UK Climate Resilience Programme (UKCRP) lunchtime webinar series in which both researchers and stakeholders participate.  The webinars showcase projects conducted for UKRI and by the Met Office for the SPF UK Climate Resilience Programme and thematic topics. All webinars are on Wednesdays and run from 12.00-13.00.

Join  the  webinar on Climate resilience and the national flood and coastal erosion risk management strategy by Dr. Harriet Orr and Alex Cutler (Environment Agency) on March 10.

Harriet Orr (Climate Change Research Lead) and Alex Cutler (Flood & Coastal Risk Management Advisor) introduce the Environment Agency’s plans and techniques for how climate research is being used to better plan for range of future climate impacts. The webinar will explain the focus of the Environment Agency’s research to ensure our people, places and infrastructure are resilient to climate hazards, with a specific focus on the ground-breaking national Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy for England (2020), which seeks to create a nation that is resilient to flooding and coastal change, by planning for a range of future climate and embracing a broader range of flood resilience approaches.

Dr Harriet Orr
Harriet leads a team of scientists to make sure the right research is in place to meet current and future needs. We come up with practical solutions to help staff within and outside the Environment Agency plan for and manage the effects of climate change. We set out the need for research, sometimes commissioning this, doing it ourselves or working in partnership. We help shape the activities of research funders and steer projects. We do a lot of translation of science as well as sharing our agenda and the needs of science users with the wider research community.

Alex Cutler
Alex works in the National Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Adaptation and Resilience Team at the Environment Agency, leading on climate change adaptation. She has worked at the Environment Agency for 13 years and is responsible for helping to ensure that FCRM’s activities plan for a range of future climate scenarios and are resilient to climate change. She’s responsible for the climate change allowances guidance used by risk management authorities on FCRM projects, schemes and strategies, coordinating FCRM’s input into the National Adaptation Programme and Climate Change Risk Assessment and delivering projects to embed adaptive and resilient approaches.
