Greening the desert with pastures, orchards, legume crops, medicinal plants and potato farms

New initiatives like on-farm trials for seed potato production have the potential of benefiting farmers in the arid regions of Rajasthan, India. Existing initiatives such as intercropping legumes with fruit trees and medicinal plants, developing community pastures for livestock, harvesting rainwater and making the most of scarce groundwater resources have already increased productivity and incomes of farmers.
