The COPs and the process of Capacity Building in the UNCCD throughout the years

The Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) was one of the main highlights of the UNCCD’s stand at the just concluded Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development held last week at the Bonn World Conference Center.

Here the CBM team shared with participants of the festival information of the great opportunities and possibilities offered on the Marketplace; invited the young visitors to become involved in the sustainable development process; and explained the importance of achieving Land Degradation Neutrality to the realization of the SDGs in general.

Le concours photo du Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) de la Convention des Nations Unies pour la lutte contre la désertification (UNCCD en anglais) vise à montrer au monde des images dans de la lutte contre la désertification, la dégradation des terres et la sécheresse. Ce concours vise à promouvoir votre créativité et à vous donner l'occasion de partager vos idées et expériences dans ce domaine.

Le titre du concours est:

The Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) presented the UNCCD Secretariat's exposition at the recently concluded Subsidiary Bodies Session 48 (SB48) of the United Nations Climate Change (UNCC) held at the World Conference Center in Bonn, Germany, from 30th of April to the 4th of May.

This E-Learning Course on the UNCCD Reporting Process is designed to help participants to undertake the UNCCD Reporting Process. The course is based upon the manual that guides UNCCD in accordance to the new strategic framework (2018-2030), which has 5 Strategic Objectives and an implementation framework, which reporting entities must report against. This course simplifies the manual thus making it easier to use.

Welcome to the UNCCD Capacity Building Marketplace, where we have developed a collection of specialized material to support the 2017-2018 Reporting Process. You can now download the E-Course, which contains numerous tips and training videos.

The course is free of charge and available now. We strongly encourage all the Reporting Entities and genuinely interested individuals and organizations to make use of this tool, in order to increase their knowledge on the Reporting Process 2017-2018.

Out of all submissions during the last weeks, the Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) Team is more than pleased and excited to announce the 20 pre-selected photos which are under consideration for the final stage of our 2018 Photo Competition.

From those 20 short-listed photos, each voter can choose up to 5 favorite pictures! Every vote has the same value and is equal to one point.

The Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) of the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) held a tremendous activity on 15th of June 2018 at St. Georges International School of Cologne, Germany in celebration of World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD), which is actually commemorated on 17 June every year.  

On Thursday the 5th July 2018, the UNCCD Secretariat, represented by its Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) hosted students from the University of Bonn, completing the Masters in Agricultural and Food Economics (AFECO).

On Thursday the 12th of July, the UNCCD Secretariat, represented by its Capacity Building Marketplace Team (UNCCD-CBM), had the great pleasure of hosting three students from St. George’s International School of Cologne and their accompanying teacher Mr. Stephen Ryan (Head of Upper School).

We are very pleased to present all 20 pictures that made it into the final round of our 2018 Photo Competition. The final winners were determined by you through public voting held over the last several weeks. We again thank all participants, both competitors and voters for making this exercise the tremendous success it was.

In the following, the affected entities of the 2017-2018 UNCCD Reporting Process can find prime exemplars of how a comprehensive report with regard to all five Strategic Objectives looks like.
