On 12 April the Team of the Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) visited the high school students of the CJD Christophorusschule in Königswinter, Germany. The main purpose of this visit was to raise awareness about the importance of engaging the youth in sustainable development and the value of the land to our lives.
We are very pleased to present all 20 pictures that made it into the final round of our 2018 Photo Competition. The final winners were determined by you through public voting held over the last several weeks. The Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) presented the UNCCD Secretariat's exposition at the recently concluded Subsidiary Bodies Session 48 (SB48) of the United Nations Climate Change (UNCC) held at the World Conference Center in Bonn, Germany, from 30th of April to the 4th of May.

On Tuesday the 21st of May 2019, the UNCCD Secretariat, represented by its Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) hosted students from the University of Cologne pursuing the Master in Environmental Sciences. The visitors were officially welcomed by UNCCD Deputy Executive Secretary, Dr. Pradeep Monga who also gave a general introduction to the UN system and to the UNCCD.

Königswinter, Germany – On Friday 6th of March, the Capacity Development & Innovations Office (CDIO) of the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was welcomed at the CJD Königswinter School for a very special event.
The First UNCCD Capacity Building Training Fair was held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) in Georgetown, Guyana. The Training Fair was specifically designed to address the main issues that the UNCCD focuses on, and to strengthen the capacities of the Parties so that they can undertake actions to tackle these challenges. One of the main objectives of this first Fair was to help decision-makers and UNCCD stakeholders increase their capacities both individually and institutionally.
Congratulations to all the participants who participated in the UNCCD/CDIO Global Essay Competition 2020-2021. We were glad about the sheer number of participants engaged in creating a better future by giving their ideas on averting future pandemics. On June 25, the UNCCD Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) Team visited the high school students of the Bonn International School, Germany. The main purpose of this visit was to raise awareness about the importance of engaging the youth in the sustainable development process, and the roles they can play to help in achieving this goal.
For the kids, a T-shirt design and a face-painting activity were held.
At the UNCCD COP14 recently held in Delhi India, the Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) featured strongly through its side-event "Talking Capacity Building and You. A chance to share and to receive!" which took place on 6th of September. The CBM team of Jairo (Colombia), Ali (Pakistan), Jorge (Spain), Lilia (Russia), Loretta (Ghana), and Paul (France) had worked -under the guidance of CBM Manager, Dr. Richard A. Byron-Cox- for weeks organizing this major event.
Dr. Ahmet Şenyaz, a forest engineer and an advisor to the Ministry of Forest and Water of the Republic of Turkey, recently called at the Marketplace where he met Head of the Team, Dr. Richard Byron-Cox. Dr. Şenyaz who holds a PhD in forest fire economics, was for eight years Chief of Turkey’s Research and Development Department of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. He now coordinates the activities of Turkey’s National Working Group on Combating Desertification and Land Degradation.
